So much has been going on in the last week that I have not had much time to update my blog. Amazing when you are faced with life how certain things just drop to the bottom of the list. I have had a good week at work and at the gym but alas the blog has suffered.

In the article, Selective Intelligence: Donald Rumsfeld Has His Own Special Sources. Are They Reliable? - by Seymour M. Hersh, Tuesday, May 6, 2003, the New Yorker a number of excellent facts about just how unbelievable Rumseld and his band of thugs really are. It talks in some detail about the unreliablity of certain Iraqi defectors and how some of the supposed evidence , may actually be greatly exaggerated to increase vastly the their significance. This is of course nothing new and as noted in the article, as among many prior sources, Russian defectors have been notorious for this sort of exaggeration since it leads to much better treatment at the hands of Americans.

Another important fact that it highlights is the moving target reason for the invasion of Iraq. At first it was Al-Qaeda is in Iraq, then it was Saddam is notorious and has weapons of mass destruction and will not allow UN inspections, then he was deceiving inspectors and finally no weapons. However, as a congressional aide in the article says, "Everybody loves to be on the winning side". Of course most news media is playing right along by referring to Iraq as the New Iraq . This has the subtext of eliminating the old Iraq which had the weapons of mass destruction but is now the new democratic and fair place, with american viceroys in tow no doubt.
